Care-ela : Interactive Acupressure Mat
Care-ela (name derived from Hindi word ‘Karela’ for Bitter gourd) is an interactive acupressure mat which is made using different types materials and techniques. As bitter gourd is known for its medicinal purpose, the mat evokes similar property through its texture, so when the user interacts with the mat it relaxes them and makes them feel good because of the various textures present, each of different intensity.
The warty crochet texture has a high potential for its use in improving balance proprioception in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN). Its treatment includes physical therapy, and involves activities to improve motor skills, strength, and balance. As this surface is uneven, it makes the patient aware of his surrounding and various balance exercises can be performed on it.
